1st Corinthians 3:16
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?
“Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (John 2:19).
Jesus spoke these amazing words of His death and resurrection in response to the demands of the Jews that He show a sign that would prove He was the Messiah. The Jews, of course, did not understand Him because material things interested them more than spiritual truths. The only temple they could think of was Herod’s temple in Jerusalem.
The Lord Jesus, however, was talking about His Own body – the Temple in which all fullness of God dwelt. These words were prophetic of Jesus about His body’s resurrection from the dead. Even to His disciples these words became clear only after Christ rose from the dead. We have just celebrated Easter, when we remembered not only the death of Christ, but also His glorious resurrection from the dead, and His appearance in the glorified body.
Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “We are the Temple of the Living God. As God has said: “I will live with them, and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (2nd Corinthians 6:16).
Our body is truly the temple of the living God. Jesus did not leave us in the dark about where the Kingdom of God is. He said it is within us. Let us treat this promise with all seriousness. Let us be loyal rulers and faithful guardians of the Temple of God. After all, we have the responsibility to keep it in good condition.
I wish that each one of us would allow the Holy Spirit complete freedom to use our lives according to His holy will.
