The 11th chapter of Luke recorded a request of Jesus’ disciples: “Lord, teach us to pray”. It wasn’t a request to teach them theory, but a request to teach them how to practice prayer. Apostles wanted to have the same prayer connection with the Father as they had witnessed in the life of Jesus. They wanted to live in prayer. That’s why Jesus didn’t tell them about the principles of prayer, nor did He tell them to read a good book about prayer. Jesus told them: “When you pray, say…”. That was His answer.
He who sincerely wants to go to Christ’s school of prayer should only do one thing – pray. Of course, we can read many books about prayer, hear about the power of prayer, accumulate knowledge on this subject, but all of this doesn’t mean that we are students in the school of prayer. A life of prayer develops best through prayer.
Do we really desire to enrich our spiritual life in Jesus? If so, let’s obey and follow the advice of Apostle Paul.
“Constantly pray” – 1 Thes 5:17
“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving” – Col. 4:2
It is my desire that all of us would practice prayer as Jesus did when He lived on this earth.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Mathew 6:6).
